How you can help your child...

Ask to see evidence of their revision. The Geography department recommends that revision is active. Pupils are advised to use a combination of the following strategies:
• Highlight key points in their class notes.
• Create nonsense words to help them remember sequences (mnemonics)
• Turn notes into drawings
• Keep copying diagrams until they can be reproduced from memory.
• Create mind-maps identifying and linking key points
• Record important points on an mp3 player. Listen to the recording over and over.
• Revise in a group – talk with each other about the topic. Write practice questions (and model answers) to test each other.
• Make rhymes or raps about topics. Sing your notes to a favourite tune.
• Make flash cards then ask someone to test you.
• Rewrite your notes in your own words. Summarise the key points. From memory, re-write the key points.
